Mothing Night (6.6.2026)

Last Sunday night I did my first moth sheet of the year and tried out my new lights (Entoquip Light). Well, to be honest it was really around 2:30 Monday morning. I was laying awake in bed then decided I might as well go out and see what moths were about.

The moth turn out was a bit meager, but twelve species paid me a visit.

All of the following identifications are based on iNaturalist suggestions (not all are confirmed so they are tentative).

First, a couple of favorites from that night…

Ursula Wainscot Moth (Leucania ursula)

Ursula Wainscot Moth
Ursula Wainscot Moth
Ursula Wainscot Moth

Virginian Tiger Moth (Spilosoma virginica)

The Rest of the Crew…

Confused Eusarca Moth (Eusarca confusaria)
Red-headed Inchworm Moth
(Macaria bisignata)
Common Eupithecia Moth (Eupithecia miserulata)

Why is the one moth “confused”?

    1. I think it is a combination of things…none of which are about the moth being confused. There are other species that look similar, there is variations in color, and the taxonomy is difficult. Confused is about the difficulty of properly identifying it.
