This September we are hosting an Open Garden to enjoy the beauty of asters and goldenrods. In April we welcomed spring blooms and in July the robust colors of the season’s peak. Now as we enter fall, we delight in vivid blues and golds as the garden starts to wane.

What to Expect
The blooms of July are spent and now ripen as seeds. The foliage of plants has seen better days, they are browning and looking straggly. The grounds are not as tidy as Terri and I forgo some upkeep to indulge in the beauty and rich activity in the garden.
For some species of asters and goldenrods we have clumps in multiple beds and for others species just a few specimens.
The asters include Aromatic, Blue Wood, Crooked Stem, Flat-topped, New England, Short’s, Sky Blue, Smooth, ‘Snow Flurry’ Heath, and Willow.

The goldenrods include Bluestem, Early, Ohio, Riddell’s, Short’s, Showy, Stiff, Wrinkle Leaf, and Zigzag.

Also, diverse insects should be visiting these end-of-season plants.
